aab Announces New 9 1 9 6X and 9 7

Saab’s parent company Swedish Automobile NV said on Monday it converted the non-binding memorandum of understanding with Pang Da Automobile Trade Co. and Zhejiang Youngman Lotus Automobile Co into a final agreement. However, the deal is still subject to regulatory approval from Chinese and Swedish authorities as well as the European Investment Bank.
In addition to the above agreement, Saab announced the formation of a Sweden-based joint venture company between itself and Youngman called NPJV, which will focus on the development of three new product models.
According to the Swedish automaker, these include an entry-level 9-1 and two premium cars, named 9-6X (most likely an SUV because of the "X" designation) and 9-7 (presumably a 7-Series competitor) which didn’t feature in Saab’s original plans.
The NPJV will be 50 percent owned by Saab Automobile and 50 percent by Youngman Passenger Car.
“Within the development process of these three new vehicle lines, Saab Automobile will be responsible for controlling and managing the design, the development and testing process to the start of production and providing other necessary technical and quality control support,” Saab said in a statement.
The Swedes added that Youngman’s passenger car division will be “responsible for providing the necessary financial investments in the joint venture”. Saab did not say where these models will be built, but manufacturing will most likely take place in China.
Mr. Pang Qingnian, CEO of Youngman, commented: “The agreement on the New Product Joint Venture brings together the best of both worlds, merging the industrial and financial strength of Youngman Passenger Car with the state-of-the-art technical expertise of Saab Automobile. The Saab 9-6X and Saab 9-7 will be key to enhancing the prestige of the Saab brand to an even larger group of customers in China and the US, while the entry level Saab 9-1 will appeal to urban motorists around the globe.”

General Motors revealed the 2014 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado ahead of the scheduled debut in the Detroit Auto Show (North American International Auto Show), next January.

Lets start with the engines. GM introduced three new EcoTec3 engines, a 4.3liter V6, a 5.3liter V8 and a 6.2liter V8 whose specifications are still unknown, but we know they will have direct injection, continuously variable valve timing, new pistons, new cylinder head design with a compression ratio of at least 11:1 and cylinder deactivation technology.

GM promises, besides being more fuel efficient, the trucks will also be more comfortable and will have better handling, thanks to the new suspension, electric power steering, body mounts, brakes and wider wheels.

Outside, one of the major objectives was to reduce the noise caused by wind and the drag. But that did not stop GMs designers from increasing the front grille and headlamps. You even have optional LED lights in the bed rails besides those in the headlamps (GMC). And if you want you can choose from 17 to 20inches rims and a special 22inch wheel is also available.

In the cabin the interiors are all new, with an upright instrument panel, six-gauge instrument cluster with a 4.2-inch color Driver Information Center displaying vehicle and infotainment data. Also available will be the IntelliLink system with an eight inch color touchscreen, plus a 110-volt outlet, up to five USB ports, four 12-volt outlets and a SD card slot.

Standard safety features include Forward Collision Alert, Lane Departure Warning with an Active Safety Seat, Front and Rear Park Assist, StabiliTrak with Trailer Sway Control and Hill Start Assist.

New Honda compact SUV teased

New concept could point at a future compact SUV based on the Jazz.

Honda will unveil a new concept vehicle at the Detroit motor show that will become a new baby SUV. The production version of the Urban SUV Concept is expected to go on sale within the next three years.

The new car is likely to be spun off the new Honda Jazz platform, which is due in the next two years, and with which the firm is targeting sales of up to 400,000 units a year in America and Europe.

Unlike with previous generations of the car, Honda is giving its global regions freedom to develop the Jazz to suit local tastes. The European version is expected to be built at the firms base in Swindon.

The baby SUV is a key part of Honda president Takanobu Itos ambitious plans to double global sales to six million cars a year by 2017.

Early Reveal for New All Electric Volkswagen Golf e Mk7

Volkswagen is expanding its range of Golf Mk7 models with a new pure electric version named the Golf-e, seen in these pictures for the first time ahead of a world premiere at the 2013 Geneva International Motor Show on March 5.

The German brand hasnt officially released details yet, but Spanish newspaper El Mundo has more than enough information to cure your curiosity.

On the outside, the only telltale signs that this Golf VII is battery-powered are the covered upper and the reshaped lower grilles, along with the mildly modified head- and tail-lamps, while inside, VW replaced the tachometer and the two smaller gauges in the instrument panel with new meters providing relevant information. The LCD screen of the infotainment system was also updated accordingly.

The newspaper says the Golf-e is fitted with an electric motor producing an output of 115hp and an instant torque figure of 270Nm (199 lb-ft), good enough to accelerate the front-wheel drive model to 100km/h (62mph) in 11.8 seconds and on to a limited top speed of 135km/h (84mph), in order to conserve energy.

Electric juice comes from a 26.5 kWh lithium ion battery positioned under the rear seats. The report says it does not eat away any boot space, which remains the same as the regular Golf hatchback. What it does do along with the electric motor is add 205kg or 452 pounds over the equivalent internal combustion engine model.

The battery can be charged in 20 minutes using the quick charging system with a three-phase current, or in five hours using a household wall socket, in which case, it offers a driving range of up to 175 kilometers or 109 miles, depending on the driving style and road conditions.

New Volvo V60 Sports Wagon 2011 S60 gets Practical

Revealed ahead of its Paris Motor Show debut, the all-new Volvo V60 is the estate version of the recently launched 2011 S60 sedan. New Jaguar XF 2 2 Diesel review

With a smaller diesel motor under the hood of the XF, Jaguar finally ventures into the entry-level executive saloon segment.

With just a 3.0-litre, six-cylinder diesel on offer so far, Jaguar missed out on the hugely lucrative entry-level executive luxury saloon market, one where Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz have so far, made a killing. Now, Jaguar has finally rolled up its sleeves and dived headfirst into this part of the pool with the competitive 2.2-litre diesel XF.

In the XF’s favour is its sheer desirability and the fact that it is a genuine alternative to the German ‘Big Three’. Also in its favour is the fact that this XF is assembled in India and attracts lower duties than its six-cylinder imported brother.

Like the 3.0-litre diesel, this 2.2-litre motor is mounted longitudinally and powers the rear wheels. It makes 187bhp and a healthy 45.8kgm of torque and this translates directly into a responsive and adequately powerful car. In fact, it is so nice, the only time you will probably realise the engine’s smaller capacity is when you want more urge at high speeds.

Otherwise, this engine is eager to rev to its redline and pulls in a linear manner while it is doing so. The performance figures back this up – 0-100kph takes 9.1sec, which is pretty much on par with the rest of the competition. Its kick-down acceleration times are impressive too, which points to why this engine felt so flexible in Mumbai’s traffic.

A part of this flexibility is also down to the eight-speed automatic gearbox and its broad spread of ratios. It’s a gearbox that blurs its shifts effectively, changes gear rather intuitively and tries to keep the engine spinning as efficiently as possible. The only minor hitch comes when you want a quick downshift to slot into a gap. Adding more pressure on the throttle doesn’t help, and only if you hit the kick-down switch or tug at the paddle does it jump down gears quickly.

What’s also impressive is the engine’s relative refinement, considering it’s got four cylinders. Sure it’s not as supremely quiet or smooth as its six-cylinder brother, but the difference is marginal. More importantly, it feels a whole lot quieter than the engines in the 520d and the E 250 CDI.

So the XF 2.2’s smooth shifts, linear power delivery and refinement make for a car that feels rather relaxing to be in and entirely fitting with the Jaguar character. Oddly, though, the ride seems to be on the lumpy side at low speeds, but the higher-profile tyres and smaller, 17-inch rims help it handle sharp bumps impressively. It also has a flat, composed high-speed ride, and body control is good too. That apart, the handling isnt sporty. The steering isn’t as sharp or direct off centre as a 5-series and it doesn’t feel particularly involving to drive, which is fine – this car is for the more economy-conscious owner who’s unlikely to push it to its limits.

What owners will expect are comfortable, special interiors, and that’s what they will get, largely. The XF still gets Jaguar’s ‘handshake’, where the rotary gear selector rises out of the centre console and the air-con vents flip open electrically. They will also find a simple, well-built and uncluttered dashboard that looks a bit traditional, with its acres of wood. Some might also be disappointed by the fact that the interiors don’t feel as avant garde as those of its more modern competition. That aside, Jaguar has added satellite navigation and a switch that allows rear passengers to slide the front passenger seat back and forth; small but significant additions to an equipment list that also includes a reverse camera, dual-zone climate control, paddle-shifters, keyless go, a sunroof, Bluetooth connectivity and USB and aux-in ports.

Jaguar should have liberated more cabin space along with the recent mid-life facelift. Though the front seats are quite spacious, there is noticeably less space at the rear as compared to its rivals at the rear. Jag ofcourse is paying the price of the coupe-like profile.

Now for the anoraks. It’s rather easy to tell a passing four-cylinder XF from the 3.0-litre one. Simply look for the smaller wheels and the single tail pipe. Oh, and the 2.2-litre car doesn’t get the ‘S’ badging on the boot lid either.

At Rs 44.5 lakh (ex-showroom, pre-octroi, Mumbai), the XF isnt the cheapest car in its class, but it is easily the cheapest XF. A BMW 520d is Rs 2.4 lakh cheaper. But, remember, the Jag car does have a bit more equipment that its rivals which does offset the higher price to some extent. And, because it is assembled here, you can also expect it to be a sizeable Rs 10 lakh cheaper on the road, in some cities, than the 3.0-litre XF S. This in itself will attract those who have been eyeing the relative exclusivity of the XF, but have been put off by the high entry price.

One thing’s for certain, this car will no doubt become the best-selling Jaguar in India, and we are convinced it has the potential to take the fight right to the Germans.

New Toyota Auris Touring Sports Range Priced in the UK

Toyota has released pricing and specification details for the UK market Auris Touring Sports that starts from £15,595 for the base, petrol engine model and tops out at £22,845 for the hybrid version.

It will be offered in the UK with the same powertrain options as the hatch, including the 98bhp 1.33-liter and 130bhp 1.6-liter petrol units, an 88bhp 1.4-liter D-4D diesel and the 134bhp 1.8-liter petrol-electric hybrid, which is capable of 0-62mph (100km/h) acceleration in 10.9 seconds and reaches top speed of 112mph.

The hybrid model returns CO2 emissions of 86g/km, while the 1.33 and 1.6 petrol units are rated at 127 and 139g/km respectively and the 1.4 D-4D diesel at 109g/km.

The new, British-built estate is available in four trim grades, named Active, Icon, Sport and Excel, more detail of which can be found in the list after the break.

Chevrolet Sail

Chevrolet wants a strong presence in every segment of the Indian car market and to this end the manufacturer will launch the Sail mid-size saloon in early 2013. Just like its hatchback sibling, the styling both inside and out is on the conservative side. However, its spacious cabin will give it an edge over the Maruti Swift Dzire, which should be its chief rival. Like the U-VA, the Sail will be powered by a 1.3-litre diesel engine and will also share its 1.2-litre petrol engine. Interestingly, Chevrolet will not offer a 1.4-litre petrol on the Sail as earlier believed. With the promise of excellent ride quality, decent comfort and prices ranging from an estimated Rs 6-7.5 lakh, the Sail could just ruffle the established order in the lower end of the mid-size saloon segment.

Fiat Linea facelift

The turkish market received the updated Linea earlier this year and Fiat is planning to bring it to India in 2013. As part of its mid-life makeover, the Linea will get a new grille and a completely redesigned front bumper with lots of chrome embellishments. The tail is quite different too, with the most notable changes being the respositioning of the number plate from the bumper to the bootlid and the addition of a thick strip of chrome lower down. While the update also brings with it a new dashboard overseas, this is unlikely to make it to India. Expect the refreshed Linea to be accompanied by a small bump up in prices.

Ford Fiesta facelift

Last month’s Paris Motor Show saw the unveiling of the facelifted Ford Fiesta hatchback. We expect many of the styling updates to trickle down to the saloon version as well. Leading the list of changes is a larger hexagonal grille, in keeping with Ford’s new global design language. The headlights are slightly different too, while new creases give the bonnet more definition. This visual makeover could also be accompanied by the fitment of the tech-laden 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol motor that will eventually be offered on all of Ford’s small and mid-size cars.

New Maruti Saloon

Maruti may have an expansive product line but believes there is still room for another saloon that can slot between the Dzire and SX4. This new saloon will not be under four metres and will come with a full-sized boot. Details about this new saloon are still sketchy but what the grapevine tells us is that this car will be built on a completely new platform and will have a new design language as well. What is safe to assume is that this new saloon will come with the same 1.3-litre diesel and 1.4-litre petrol motors from the Ertiga. A December 2013 launch is possible.

Mercedes-Benz A-class saloon

The A-Class hatch may not go on to be a big-volume seller, but its saloon sibling headed here in late 2013 could be. The A-class saloon’s striking looks will mark a radical departure from traditional Merc saloon design. As the CLA concept saloon laid bare, frontal styling is aggressive, while the nicely arced roof and tightly skinned boot make this an attention-grabbing design. This saloon will be significantly smaller than the C-class, but thanks to Merc’s packaging-friendly front-wheel-drive MFA platfrom, space will be decent. The cabin is likely to carry much of the exterior’s sporty theme. Power will be via a 1.6-litre turbo petrol and 1.8-litre diesel, and a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox will be standard. With prices likely to range from Rs 20-24 lakh, the A-class saloon could turn the entry luxury car market on its head.

Nissan Sunny Auto

The popular diesel version may contribute to the bulk of Nissan Sunny sales in India but the petrol model will get a lot more interesting come February 2013. That’s when Nissan will start selling the Sunny petrol with a CVT gearbox-equipped automatic option. Likely be sold at a premium of Rs 80,000 over the petrol manual variant, the automatic Sunny will make great sense for urban car buyers who drive themselves.

Renault Scala Auto

If you’re among those who have taken a liking to the Scala and are considering the petrol car, then it is worth your time to wait for the automatic version, slated to go on sale in mid-2013. The car will receive a CVT-gearbox and like Renault’s alliance partner Nissan’s Sunny automatic, that will be launched around the same time, will cost around Rs 80,000 more than the manual variant. In case you have your doubts, Renault-Nissan’s Xtronic ’box is known to offer less of the ‘rubber band’ effect traditionally associated with CVTs and also better fuel efficiency than a torque converter auto.

Skoda New Octavia

Skoda started its Indian innings with the Octavia and the name is all set to make a comeback to India on the Czech carmaker’s new D-segment challenger, which will go on sale in late 2013. Built on the Volkswagen Group’s flexible MQB platform, the latest Octavia will be longer and wider yet lighter than the current-gen model, which is sold in India as the Laura. Styling will also be much sharper and will carry Skoda’s edgier new design language. Like its predecessors, the new Octavia will be a notchback. Thanks to its larger exterior dimensions, the new car’s cabin will be more spacious, which should translate to a better rear-seat experience. The car could feature new engines but the 2.0-litre diesel and 1.8-litre turbo-petrol are likely to be carried forward. What remains to be seen is how Skoda will position the new Octavia, given that the Laura continues to be a strong seller even after all these years.

Tata Manza facelift

Tata is working on a comprehensive styling update for the Manza saloon. The car is expected in mid-2013 and may carry many elements from the Manza Hybrid saloon shown at this year’s Auto Expo. Frontal styling will be completely different, with a new smiling grille, sharp creases on the bumper and hawk-eye headlights. Moreover, the Manza could be the first Indian car to feature bi-Xenon headlights. Changes at the rear will include reshaped tail-lamps, a more angled bootlid and plastic cladding on the lower portion of the bumper to camouflage some of its bulk. The interior could benefit from a revised centre console and improved quality, though the current engine options are likely to be carried forward.
